My Summer Favorites

As the hot air starts to cool down to transition into fall, I look back at some of the items that entertained me through the warm days. From TV shows to Podcasts, here are some of my favorites things I discovered.

Podcast

Slow Burn Season 2
This season derives on Bill Clinton’s impeachment/Monica Lewinsky Scandal. I was a kid during this time period but remember away being fascinated by the whole ordeal. Slow Burn is taking apart every aspect from Clinton’s first year to being president to Monica’s decision to share her story with the FBI instead of spending 24 years in jail.

Popcast
New York Times' Jon Caramanica, a pop critic, covers the latest trends in pop music through news and criticism. It's fun to hear his along with fellow journalists in music and culture discuss major topics from Kanye West to the current state of music.

Goop
My guilty pleasure is Gwyneth Paltrow. I’ve been obsessed with her since I saw her in that Sears prom clearance rack dress at the Academy Awards. Her widely criticized publication Goop now has a podcast where they discuss WASPY wellness, nutrition and Gwyneth speaks with her ultra-famous friends like Oprah, Janet Mock, and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Movies

To The Boys I Loved Before
It’s been a long time since I’ve fallen in love with a well-crafted rom-com, especially a teen flick rom-com. TTBILB will fill your heart's desire and make you want to send out love letters to all your past crushes in hopes of snagging your own personal Peter Kavinsky.

Crazy Rich Asians
The film adaptation of the book by Kevin Kwan of the same name is a great summer flick that explores the high society of the Chinese’s elite with a great love story. I only cried two times, and if a movie can make my cold heart cry more than once, it’s a great film.

TV Shows

Pose
The Ryan Murphy show is based in the 1980’s that follows the blood, sweat, and tears of the New York City’s ballroom scene. It’s one of the first mainstream show that explores the lives of Black and brown LGBT people You will fall in love with all the characters and cheer during all the ball scenes.

Love Island
A mix between Bachelor in Paradise and Big Brother is a UK show that throws 11 singles in a house on an island, in hopes they will find love. But through it all are games, contestants eliminated, and more singles enter the house to stir stuff up. Turn on your captions and enjoy watching the messiness.

Insecure
Issa is trying to get her life together after being evicted and moving in with her former fling Daniel. Issa and her best friend Molly are always put in hilariously awkward situations. Like that time Issa was a Lyft driver with Molly as a support system. During their party car ride, two of their pickups get into an altercation/fight in the back seat.

Bumble BFF
Making friends as an adult is difficult, now put me in a new city with no friends makes it even harder. But luckily the dating app Bumble has expanded to help us find our tribe. I’ve already connected with two rad girls. #Blessed.

What were you some of your faves this summer?
