This will concluded my Fun Facts Friday. I have some truly interesting stories to tell about a lap dance from a celebrity, how I almost died on stage and when I decided I wanted to be a DJ...it didn't go quite as well!
Here are some fun interesting facts about me.
For my 21st birthday, I celebrated at Lucky Cheng's a drag show cabaret. We requested for a queen to give one of our friends a lap dance. Unbeknownst to us the dancer who is Orange is the New Black actress Laverne Cox before she was famous. I actually wrote about the experience a few years later on the site, Oh No They Didn't and the post went viral.
I attended catholic school from kindergarten to first grade. For our first picture day, my mother didn't get the memo that you still had to wear a uniform for the picture. You know the Pierres can't do anything basic, and my mom dressed me up in this hot pink fancy dress for the photo. I was the only person dressed up and I definitely stood out in the class picture.
One year my sister wanted to surprise me with tickets to see Prince in concert for Christmas. She didn't tell me she purchased the tickets and unfortunately she completely forgot the date of the concert until it already happened. Needless to say, I was not happy.
But in 2015, Prince had random pop up shows for his Hit and Run tour. He announced a show a few days before the concert in random cities. When I found out he would be performing in Detroit, I made sure to snag tickets. I ended up getting floor seats, 10 rows from the stage. It was one of the best shows ever. He played for 2 1/2 hours with 3 encores.
I'm a big fan of karaoke. For one of my birthdays, we went to Union Hall for their karaoke nights. I performed "We Found Love" by Rihanna. I got way too into my performance and somehow my crossbody purse and necklace almost choked me to death on stage. It was hilarious after the fact! I still managed to finish the song like a pro.
I would listen to Hot 97 (a radio station in NYC) and hear the local DJ scratch records and thought, "hey, we own records, I can scratch records too." I scrubbed my sister's vinyl of Salt N Pepa 'Hot, Cold and Vicious.' I didn't realize it would permanently damage the album. When my sister found out, she was NOT happy with me.
I like my pop stars to be talented but a little insane. It's no surprise my favorite pop stars are, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Kanye West (he's a pop culture figure, he counts a pop star), MIA, Prince, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
I attended Britney Spears' Vegas show and I teared up during her performance of "Toxic." It's truly one of the greatest pop songs of our generation, which is probably the reason my emotions took the best of me.
Most of my summers growing up were spent in Little Falls, NY with my aunt and uncle. We'd hang out at the lake, play music and games.
Attended the "Hip-Hop Pedagogy" session at SXSW edu and the next generation is really talented
