I wouldn’t consider myself a festive person who is obsessed with Christmas, but I do enjoy this time of year. It gives me fond memories of driving through the city and seeing people’s Christmas decorations and making a stop at Rockefeller Center to see the beautiful tree and all the window displays around the area. I always loved seeing Christmas decorations and people tend to be a little kinder to one another. As I’ve grown older, I do very much enjoy Christmas music. In high school, I would listen to Christmas music from after Thanksgiving until the day after Christmas. Now I l listen to it whenever I get the urge, but it always puts me in the best mood.
Here are some of my favorite Christmas songs to bring good cheers.
All I Want for Christmas
Mariah Carey is the Chancellor of Christmas
It’s popular to hate this song but I love quirky/cheesy Paul McCartney. It’s such a feel good song! If this version is too cheesy for you, Tuxedo has a very smooth cover.
Christmas In Hollis
I normally hate Run DMC (I just can’t get into the 80’s hip-hop) but this is a classic.
Funky, Funky Christmas
Don’t judge that I had this on my list, it’s a very good song.
Come On! Let’s Boogey to the Elf Dance
Sujfan Stevens has definitely changed the game for indie listeners to embrace their Christmas modes.
Not many people are allowed to cover this song and I basically only listen to the original. Donny Hathaway did what he had to do with this one.
If you haven’t listen to Christina Aguilera’s Christmas album, do yourself a favor and listen to it now. Totally up there with Mariah’s.
Dipset X-Mas Time
It’s not Christmas until you listen to Dipset’s Christmas song.
* doing my best pop locking to this *
Under My Tree
I will forever stan for JC solo songs and this one is no different. This is totally a naughty song that I had no business listening to as a teenager.
Linus & Lucy Anderson Paak
Anderson Paak put his own touches to this classic Charlie Brown track.
Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer DMX
Can you even listen to the original after hearing DMX’s version? Also, who knew we needed a DMX Christmas song.
Carol of the Bells
the bird and the bee’s rendition is so angelic to listen to
Bizarre Christmas Incident
Ben Folds managed to make a hilarious song about a terrible event that happened to Santa.
Who knew one day I would grow up and emulate the lyrics to this song.
