In the 90's Shania Twain was like Taylor Swift. She was able to crossover from Country to Pop and become one of the biggest musical acts of the decade. Twain's album "Come On Over" was one the bestselling albums ever by a woman. Shania gaves us classic hits like:
That Don't Impress Me Much
I mean that leopard print ensemble was EV-ERY-THING.
Man! I Feel Like A Woman!
Did she invent gender? Because I didn't know it existed until I heard this song.
From This Moment On
EVERY couple who got married in 1997-1998 used this song as their first dance song.
Shania headlined the Super Bowl in 2003. She was apart of the epic first installment of Vh1's Divas Live concert.
Then she disappeared for awhile. Oh, and how could I forgot, her personal life was a hot mess for a minute. Her husband and musical partner Mutt Lang (the guy who wrote Britney Spears' beautiful ballad, "Don't Let Me Be the Last To Know") left her and married her best friend, and then she married her best friend's ex-husband. MESSY!
She's releasing a new album and going on tour this summer and last week she was a guest judge on RuPaul's Drag Race. Everything seemed to be going well for her comeback until the Guardian released their profile of the Country star Sunday afternoon.
She shared her thoughts on America's recent election. Her words:
"I would have voted for [Trump] because, even though he was offensive, he seemed honest. Do you want straight or polite? Not that you shouldn’t be able to have both. If I were voting, I just don’t want bullshit. I would have voted for a feeling that it was transparent. And politics has a reputation of not being that, right."
GIRL? What?
Even though he's offensive, you like that he's straightforward. Typical of a rich white woman, let us not forget that 52% of white women voted for Donald Trump. But I shouldn't be shocked, she is a Country singer after all, and their beliefs are very conservative. But I expected more from Shania. I loved her so much growing up.
Twitter was blowing up and it became time for Shania go full-blown damage control. She posted a lengthy "apology" on both her Instagram and Twitter platforms to address her comments but the damage was done.
YOU SAID WHAT YOU SAID, SHANIA!
Shania is canceled. Deleted.
But we'll always have the the fearless Dixie Chicks.
We also have a bunch of new Country girls to stan for like Carrie Underwood
Kacey Musgraves
Maren Morris
The only Canadians we support from this moment on will be Drake and Celine Dion. (I'm still on the fence with The Weeknd). "Nice For What" can replace "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!"
This weekend has been exhausting. Kanye West and his constant tweeting whenever he's about to drop an album or tacky fashion are just too much. West also basically admitted he's a Trump supporter (again) so basically every one I love will eventually hurt me. Why are all my favorite Pop stars acting like all my ex-boyfriends?
From Cardi B to Taylor Swift, the songs that help cement that summer in quarantine wasn’t too awful.
